NAR Applauds Senate Advancement of Bipartisan Housing Bill

The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) is applauding the U.S. Senate's advancement of the bipartisan 21st Century Road to Housing Act, legislation aimed at addressing the nation's housing shortage and expanding opportunities for homeownership.

The bill package represents one of the most comprehensive federal efforts in years to increase housing supply and improve affordability. It includes measures designed to modernize housing programs, reduce barriers to development, and support communities working to meet growing housing needs.

"NAR strongly supports the Senate Banking Committee's bipartisan efforts to address our nation's housing inventory shortage and affordability challenges," said Shannon McGahn, NAR executive vice president and chief advocacy officer. "The 21st Century Road to Housing Act contains meaningful solutions that can help communities increase housing supply and expand access to homeownership."

According to NAR, the legislation would encourage new housing development, streamline regulatory processes, and strengthen existing housing programs to better serve communities across the country.

Housing affordability and limited inventory continue to challenge buyers and sellers throughout New York and across the nation. REALTORS® have long advocated for policies that increase the supply of housing at all price points and create pathways to homeownership for more Americans.

The Senate's action marks an important step forward, though the legislation must continue through the congressional process before becoming law.

NAR has identified expanding housing supply as one of its top advocacy priorities and continues to work with lawmakers on solutions that support homeownership and strengthen local housing markets.
