Nearly $107 Million in Unclaimed Funds Waiting for Orange County Owners
Nearly $107 million in unclaimed funds is waiting to be claimed by Orange County residents, businesses and nonprofit organizations, according to New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.
DiNapoli joined State Senator James Skoufis and local officials in the Town of Wallkill to raise awareness of the $106.8 million currently being held across more than 629,000 Orange County accounts.
Unclaimed funds can come from old bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance payments, utility deposits, stock certificates and unused gift cards that have been turned over to the state after going unclaimed.
During the 2025-26 state fiscal year, the Comptroller’s office returned more than $2.7 million in unclaimed funds to Orange County residents. The state has also returned more than $1 million to Orange County residents through its Expedited Payment Program, which allows certain verified claims of up to $5,000 to be returned automatically.
Individuals, businesses and organizations can search the state’s unclaimed funds database at no cost, and there is no expiration date for claiming funds.
