A newly reconstructed bridge carrying Meadow Hill Road over the New York State Thruway (I-87) in the Town of Newburgh has officially reopened to traffic following completion of a $7.8 million infrastructure project.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the completion of the project on June 12, marking the replacement of a 72-year-old bridge that serves as a key connection for local residents, businesses and commuters in Orange County.

The new bridge features wider travel lanes, improved safety measures and a dedicated sidewalk for pedestrians. In addition, the structure provides increased vertical clearance over the Thruway, helping to improve safety and accommodate modern transportation needs. State officials estimate the bridge will have a service life of approximately 75 years.

Construction began in 2024 and was coordinated by the New York State Thruway Authority. The project was designed to modernize aging infrastructure while minimizing disruptions to motorists traveling through one of the Hudson Valley's busiest transportation corridors.

According to state officials, the bridge carries approximately 5,000 vehicles each day and serves as an important link for residents traveling throughout the Town of Newburgh and surrounding communities.

The reopening represents another investment in transportation infrastructure across the Hudson Valley, where roadway and bridge improvements continue to support regional mobility, economic activity and community connectivity.

For Orange County residents, businesses and real estate professionals, transportation infrastructure remains a key factor in community growth and accessibility. Improvements to roads, bridges and transit networks can enhance connectivity between neighborhoods, employment centers and commercial districts, helping support long-term economic development throughout the region.

The Meadow Hill Road Bridge reopened to traffic on June 12 and is now fully operational.
