Putnam County Executive Proposes $6.5 Million Property Tax Cut in 2027 Budget

Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne has proposed a $229.7 million budget for 2027 that includes a $6.5 million reduction in the county property tax levy, potentially providing tax relief for homeowners and property owners throughout the county.
The proposed reduction represents a decrease of more than 14% in the county property tax levy and would bring the county tax rate to approximately $2.04 per $1,000 of full property value.
The proposed budget also includes funding for infrastructure improvements and continued revenue sharing with local municipalities, reflecting an emphasis on fiscal management and community investment.
For Putnam County homeowners and prospective buyers, property taxes remain an important component of housing affordability. While county taxes represent only one portion of a homeowner's overall property tax bill, reductions in the county levy could help offset some of the financial pressures associated with homeownership.
The proposal comes as communities throughout the Hudson Valley continue to address housing affordability, infrastructure needs and the rising costs of maintaining local services.
The 2027 executive budget is subject to review and approval by the Putnam County Legislature. Any proposed tax reductions would not take effect unless the budget is adopted.
