NYSEG Launches Outreach Initiative to Help Veterans Access Utility Bill Assistance

New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) and Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) have launched a new outreach initiative to help veterans and their families learn about financial assistance programs that may reduce monthly utility costs.
Announced October 12, the initiative is designed to connect eligible veterans with resources such as the Energy Affordability Program (EAP), which provides monthly utility bill credits, and the Enhanced Energy Affordability Program (EEAP).
Veterans receiving disability benefits or survivors pension benefits may qualify for assistance but are not automatically enrolled. NYSEG and RG&E are partnering with veterans' organizations, community groups and AVANVETS, an employee resource group at parent company Avangrid, to increase awareness of available programs.
As part of the initiative, customer service representatives are participating in community outreach events where residents can receive individual assistance reviewing their utility bills, determining eligibility for financial support and exploring options to manage energy expenses.
Initial outreach events were held October 13 in Patterson, Putnam County, and Liberty, Sullivan County. Additional events are being planned throughout the utilities' service areas.
Representatives can also provide information about budget billing, payment plans, energy efficiency programs and online tools that help customers monitor and manage energy consumption.
The outreach effort comes ahead of Veterans Day and the winter heating season, when household energy expenses can become an increased financial burden.
Veterans and their families interested in learning more about available assistance can visit NYSEG's website or call 800-572-1111.
