Governor Cuomo Mandates Workforce to Work from Home

Dear HGAR Members:

Today Governor Andrew Cuomo will sign an Executive Order mandating that 100% of the workforce must stay home, excluding essential services. Exemptions from the order will include shipping, media, warehousing, grocery and food production, pharmacies, healthcare providers, utilities, banks and related financial institutions. The Executive Order will also implement a 90-day moratorium on evictions for residential and commercial tenants. During a press conference announcing the Executive Order, when Governor Cuomo was addressing the moratorium on evictions, he made the following comment: “By my mandate, you couldn’t even have your real estate agents showing the apartment.” This suggests that the Governor intends his Executive Order mandating that 100% of workforce must stay at home to preclude in person showing activity on the part real estate agents, as well as in person activities like open houses. Agents would be able to continue to work from home. Furthermore, all brokerage offices will need to close Sunday evening. Licensees are still able to work from home.
