Implicit Bias: How the Mind Makes Decisions Without You

“Under all is the land” is what is stated in the REALTOR® Code of Ethics. To serve all equally is to remove implicit bias from all interactions with clients and colleagues. Implicit bias is defined as the attitudes or stereotypes that affect an individual’s understanding, actions, and decisions in an unconscious manner. Creating professionalism in the workplace and equity in all real estate interactions gives all demographics the chance at home ownership. Best business practices that we can teach real estate agents and brokers are allowing anyone the right to buy or rent a home without bias.

Upon completion of this CORE Requirement, participants will be able to identify what is Implicit Bias, what the history of Implicit Bias is, how it has affected marginalized individuals and communities, and how to overcome personal bias in one’s life and workplace. In class, we will develop a comfortable environment for open discussion, and for honest questions and solutions.
